Our Never Alone programme is designed to provide support for loneliness and other emotional and practical needs plus promote general wellbeing. We have recommendations to local groups who may be able to help you. Finding the right one that meets your needs or interests can be very fulfilling and truly boost your mood.

If you have a local group you would like to add to the listing below, please submit your details via the Google form here.

Social

Friendly, welcoming social groups can be relaxed and informal and offer the chance to chat and build new friendships.

We recommend local social groups and clubs for women and men which provide entertainment, conversation and a range of social activities.

Arts & Crafts

Would you like to get stuck in with an arts project or learn a new craft?

There is so much choice when it comes to arts clubs from painting to pottery making.

We can help you find the best group for you.

Craft Group

This is a popular craft group to develop craft skills but also provides a social and support opportunity. Attendees give a £1 donation per week, with a large amount of regular attendees this tends to cover the cost of refreshments and most of the venue hire. Any top up required is funded by the group. Date and time:10am - 1pm, Fridays Frequency:

Weekly Group: Eastbourne and South Wealden Group

Walking

Walking is a popular choice both for relaxation and fitness. If you would like to get outside a little more, it can quickly become an enjoyable activity, and there are many groups in your area who would love you to join them for beautiful country walks.

Polegate Ramblers

Welcome to our walking programme. Before you go on a walk, you will need to book with the walk leader. Please contact the leader no sooner than 9am on the preceding Friday. Bookings made before that time will be ignored. This allows the leader to hold a record of all walkers and to limit the amount of walkers if necessary and to make changes accordingly. Booking is not required for the Leisurely walks. All walks start from the Rec. at 9.30 am prompt unless otherwise stated. Car parking charge to be shared between car occupants. SVP – Suggested Voluntary payment – is payable to the driver by each passenger as it is a reasonable contribution to the fuel used. Leisure walkers please check bus timetables and remember to take your bus passes. Books of walks and maps are available to borrow from the Walks’ Secretary.

Strollers

Our Strolls are intended to provide a gentle walk of around 1 to 2 miles in friendly company and on reasonably flat ground. Each stroll will include a visit to a cafe where refreshments may be had. Strolls are on the 2nd Monday of each month at a location which will be advised by email.

Books

If you are interested in meeting fellow bookworms, there are reading groups in most towns for friendly discussions and thought-provoking debates. We can help pinpoint the perfect book group for you in your area.

Hobbies

Having a wide choice of groups to pick up an old hobby or start a new one can be a wonderful way to meet new people with a similar interest to you.

We recommend local groups and clubs ranging from chess, bridge, poker, bingo, knitting, to bowls.

Stud Farm Allotment and Garden Society

An organisation with over 200 members, the Society has a number of allotments in Hyperion Avenue that it rents to the local residents of Stud Farm. These allotments came into being during the last war as part of the ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign. The Society holds its annual show in August and a number of other social events throughout the year.

Music & Theatre

Would you like to join an amateur dramatics group or a choir?

Exploring music can be good for the soul. You can join music appreciation classes or join the church choir. Dancing is also a wonderful way to meet new people and have fun.

Theatre

We visit shows and concerts in the area. Making a block booking we can enjoy each other’s company as well as the performance itself. Any intended trips are advertised on the notice board at our monthly meetings and members are invited to sign up if they wish to join us. Since we only meet once a month together, we have to do things well in advance. A show is advertised one month, tickets collected and paid for the following month in readiness for the visit.
