In memory of
Marjorie Sheila Mapstone
Marjorie was born in Dronfield, Derbyshire, on 19th February 1923. She had four siblings, Kay, Tom, Roger and Brian. Marjorie left school earlier than she might have hoped owing to World War II, and went into nursing. It was as a sister at Harefield Hospital that she 'set her cap at' and married the Chief Pharmacist, John Mapstone. Marjorie and John had two daughters, Jane and Sally. Sally is Vice Chancellor of St Andrews University. Jane has four children, Tom, Anna, Sasha and Edward, and two grandchildren, Violet and Lyra. Lyra explained that 'great nanna' was so described because 'great nanna is great'. Marjorie and John brought up their family in Uxbridge Middlesex, then retired first to Wiltshire and then to Seaford, where Marjorie spent many happy years reunited with her sister Kay. She died at Beachlands Care Home, where she had lived happily for the last year of her life.
Owing to the pandemic, Marjorie's funeral will be private. She requested two hymns, 'For the Beauty of the Earth' and 'Love which will not let me go'. These will be played at the beginning and end of the service. Jane will read 'Innisfree' by W.B Yeats, which Marjorie loved, and which Violet knows by heart. She will also read a poem chosen by Sally.
