In memory of

Margo Firth

Margo Firth
Margo was the heart of her family and the life and soul of any party. She was funny and welcoming and made people feel at home. She was always there with a bright smile, a kind word and of course, a ‘wee glass of wine’.

Born and raised in Glasgow to Margret and Roy Devenny, Margo followed in the footsteps of her mum and her sister, Lynne, to become a nurse. First working in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, then heading out on to the district, taking care of patients across Glasgow and bringing laughter and sunshine to each home she visited.

Always an avid sun-worshiper, Margo saw a nurse posting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a great opportunity to top up the tan, and have an adventure. As it emerges, it is also where she found herself a husband. She met Paul, a civil engineer, the day after arriving in Riyadh and the rest, as they say, is history.
Over more than 38 years, Paul and Margo raised three children, Victoria, Ross and Rhiannon, and they continued on their adventures around the world – making friends wherever they went. Margo’s happy place was sitting in the sunshine, outside her caravan surrounded by friends, family and dogs.

Margo was diagnosed with Primary Peritoneal Cancer in September 2019. She fought it bravely, undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy and receiving outstanding care from the NHS. In June 2020 she agreed that it was time to stop with the treatment and simply enjoy being at home with her family. Margo died peacefully at home surrounded by her family, in a house full of love. Exactly where she should be.

Margo will be with us always. Her fun-loving spirit, wicked sense of humour and love of a plan will endure. She has left people with an overwhelming sense of being happy and proud to have known her. And she lives on in each one of us as we promise to live our lives to the full.

The family has asked for donations to be made to the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, in acknowledgement of the outstanding care they provided to Margo in her final days and also to The Eve Appeal, which funds research and awareness of women’s gynaecological cancers. https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-margo039s-memory
