In memory of
Margaret Colette Said (Colette)
Margaret Colette was always known by the name Colette. She was born in Blackpool and raised in Liverpool during World War Two. Born with a golden voice, she was singled out in her singing classes and went on to train in London then perform around England with a repertory group before moving to Ceylon with her first husband. In Ceylon she became a notable singer and received glowing reviews for her performance in Noel Coward's "Bittersweet".
During her 96 years on this planet, Colette experienced life in many parts of the world. She lived in Bahrain for a while where she met her second husband, John. Then she moved to India, where her first child, Gabrielle (Gabi), was born, before moving back to England (via Ethiopia) and marrying John and giving birth to her second daughter, Katy With John, she moved back to Bahrain, where she gave birth to her son, Jonathan, and lived and performed until 1975.
At that point, Colette and her family moved to South Africa where she trained as a speech and drama teacher and opened her own studio, until moving back to England in 2006.
On July 24, 2024, on a warm summer afternoon she peacefully took her last breath with Gabi by her side playing her beloved opera music. As she would often say, "I had a wonderful life".
