In memory of

Hauwa Rena Gomos

Hauwa Rena Gomos, 58, of Luton, England and Jos, Nigeria went to be with the Lord on November 27th 2020 at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital as a result of complications from breast cancer. She is survived by husband Ezekiel, two sons, Aminu Rotji (wife, Lyndsay), Zumgak Fred (wife, Colleen) and her only daughter Nadia Leritmwa. She was also the proud grandmother of Camille, Ezra and Micah.

Hauwa was born on October 24th, 1962 in Lagos, Nigeria. She was the 2nd of ten children of Musa Tangshak and Afodia of Ampang West in Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State. She graduated from Girls High School in Gindiri and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Jos.

She joined the Surveys Department of the then Federal Ministry of Works and Housing as a Land Surveyor. She attended the Federal School of Surveying in Oyo and graduated as one of the first professionally qualified female Land Surveyors from Northern Nigeria.
She subsequently established one of her most well-known and cherished entrepreneurial pursuits –poultry farming. In a very short time, the farm enterprise grew significantly and at its peak had over 5,000 birds and was producing over 900 eggs per day. Beyond the poultry farm, she pursued other entrepreneurial activities including real estate development, merchandise import/export and farming.

While her success as an entrepreneur was notable, her biggest accomplishment was being a loving mother. In addition, she was deeply invested in ensuring the success of her husband’s career- from regular traveling to further his studies, to his various job roles that required him to be periodically away from home. She was committed to ensuring that her children had the best education and made sure against all odds that they attended the best schools. She was also deeply committed to bettering the lives of her siblings and relations.

During their courtship, Hauwa told Ezekiel of her desire to travel and see the world beyond her Nigeria. Travel, adventure, and the desire to thrive beyond one’s place of origin will be a part of her enduring legacy. In her last few years, she obtained a Master’s Degree from Middlesex University, London and enjoyed her private life in England with her daughter, Nadia close by, and her sons in the United States visiting regularly.

In 2019, they all surprised her with a trip where she got to spend exciting time with her grandchildren, Camille and Ezra which was incredibly special to her.

Hauwa will be laid to rest at the Vale Cemetery in Luton on Friday December 11th 2020 following a short funeral service for the family. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her parents, her siblings and numerous relations.
