In memory of

Malcolm Godfrey Rose

Malcolm graduated from Trinity College, London, in 1969, and trained in the harpsichord workshop of John Feldberg from 1972-4, before setting up his own workshop in Mayfield, East Sussex, in 1975. After a five-year period of testing historic wire samples with metallurgist Derek Slater, he started producing music wire in 1981, a business now continued by his daughters. Since 1990 based in Lewes, East Sussex, he made copies of French, Italian, German, and English harpsichords, virginals and spinets with a global customer base. Malcolm’s restoration work included instruments in the Rodger Mirrey Collection, now at the University of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Music Museum of Instruments in London.

We are fundraising for BREMF in Malcolm's memory, with the aim to set up a Malcolm Rose Memorial Fund, to support young artists. They hope to use the money collected to create a seed fund in order to be able to invite a former BREMF Live Young Artist group back to the Festival each year to give the “Malcolm Rose Memorial Concert”.
