Matthew Chandler
Funeral Director, Amersham
I joined the funeral services sector in 2010 at the age of 17, during this time I have worked across a variety of roles within the industry. I have always had a strong sense of purpose being involved in helping others and supporting the community.
This industry allows me to make a difference to people’s lives in a way few other roles could, even though that difference could be something small. This is what truly makes this a rewarding, fulfilling, meaningful and impactful role to have in our community.
I decided to complete my Diploma in Funeral Arranging and Administration in 2020. This taught me that within my role you never stop learning, the lives of the community and indeed the world change daily, it is our role to try and offer as many unique options to a family with this in mind at their time of need.
Part of my role also includes building awareness of CPJ Field within our local community and during this time I have created some really strong relationships with partners, such as Clergy, care staff, medical staff, local charities and other members from inside the industry.
I am a strong advocate for mental health and a new part of my role with CPJ Field is a Mental Health Workplace First Aider, this is someone trained to provide initial guidance to colleagues experiencing mental health challenges and to promote a positive and supportive workplace culture for all colleagues.
Outside of my role with CPJ Field, I have a love of being outdoors with my wife, Fern, and my three little boys. We enjoy days at the beach in Norfolk, Devon or Cornwall and visiting National Trust Properties where we get to enjoy the outdoors and develop our knowledge of the history of our beautiful country. On other weekends we always enjoy a long walk with my two dogs, being outside to make the best of the British weather.
