Our Never Alone programme is designed to provide support for loneliness and other emotional and practical needs plus promote general wellbeing. We have recommendations to local groups who may be able to help you. Finding the right one that meets your needs or interests can be very fulfilling and truly boost your mood.

Social

Friendly, welcoming social groups can be relaxed and informal and offer the chance to chat and build new friendships.

We recommend local social groups and clubs for women and men which provide entertainment, conversation and a range of social activities.

Dupont Art Club

Dupont is a friendly local art group which runs weekly art sessions at Ventnor Hall in Hove. We welcome everyone from beginners to professional artists.

Art Appreciation

We are a small friendly and inclusive group. Members each take it in turns to research and present our sessions. We always have afternoon tea together in the Crypt cafe at the end of our meetings. New members are always welcome

Walking

Walking is a popular choice both for relaxation and fitness. If you would like to get outside a little more, it can quickly become an enjoyable activity, and there are many groups in your area who would love you to join them for beautiful country walks.

Wildflower Walks

A slow pace over well-trodden paths with many stops and diversions to enable us to look at and discuss plants we see. This group is active April to September each year.

History Walks

Join Peter on guided tours of up to two hours in which we discover the story of Brighton & Hove’s historical development, and the people and places which were part of that story. Taking place on a monthly basis on Thursday mornings at 11am to 12.30pm.

Ramblers Group

Our regular group walks are a great way to experience the outdoors and explore new places safely and in good company. You’ll get a warm welcome from our experienced walk leaders and like-minded walkers.

Books

If you are interested in meeting fellow bookworms, there are reading groups in most towns for friendly discussions and thought-provoking debates. We can help pinpoint the perfect book group for you in your area.

There are book groups at both Jubilee and Hove libraries, and some at our other libraries. You’ll need to pay a fee of £5 per year to join a book group.

This is a group for all bookworms and avid readers, whatever your preferred choice of fiction. We meet on the first Wednesday of every month.

Hobbies

Having a wide choice of groups to pick up an old hobby or start a new one can be a wonderful way to meet new people with a similar interest to you.

We recommend local groups and clubs ranging from chess, bridge, poker, bingo, knitting, to bowls.

Community Gardening

We help out at the beautiful Ingram Crescent Community Garden, Hove BN3 5LB. We meet Sundays 11 to 2pm and weather permitting usually Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 2-5pm. Tools are provided, no experience necessary.

CAMEO (come and meet each other)

CAMEO is a group that has been running at Bishop Hannington Church in Hove since 1982. It was started to make contact with people in the community and has been fulfilling that mission for nearly 40 years. Join them for coffee/tea and chat, talks, quizzes etc.

Knit and Natter at Shoreham Library, is held for any adult or senior with an interest in knitting crochet, plus company and conversation.

Music & Theatre

Would you like to join an amateur dramatics group or a choir?

Exploring music can be good for the soul. You can join music appreciation classes or join the church choir. Dancing is also a wonderful way to meet new people and have fun.
