At CPJ Field, we have supported families through bereavement since 1690. As a family-owned funeral director for over 325 years and ten generations, we have always believed that every funeral should reflect the individual it honours.
Families are increasingly choosing funerals that feel personal, meaningful and true to the life being remembered.
A service built around the individual
No two lives are the same, and no two funerals should be either.
Our role is to listen carefully and help families shape a service that reflects personality, values, beliefs and wishes. This may include traditional elements, modern choices, or a combination of both – what matters most is that it feels right for the person being remembered.

From football fans to animal lovers, and from cowboy enthusiasts to a truck driver’s dream… we cover it all
Ways families are personalising funerals
Personalisation can take many forms, and there is no single right way to create a farewell.
Some of the ways families are choosing to personalise funerals today include:
Choosing meaningful music, readings and poetry
- You could prepare a curated soundtrack to be played as guests arrive
- You could prepare a selection of readings or comments in advance of family and friends speaking to camera
- You could share a playlist via a QR code to be placed on the order of service so that guests can play it on their way home
- You could invite attendees to submit a favourite song that reminds them of the person
Incorporating personal stories and tributes from family and friends
- You could include several 1-2 minute tributes instead of one long speech
- You could ask your friends and family to send in a response to ‘what will you miss the most?’
- You could include audio or video tributes from relatives overseas
Choosing unique transport ideas
- You could arrange a final journey past a meaningful location, such as a football ground, a workplace, or a favourite pub
- Your family members could accompany the coffin on foot
- You could adorn a vehicle such as a classic care, a campervan or a lorry with images of the person who has died
Reflecting hobbies, passions, or life milestones
- You could get a drawing or illustration of a map showing significant places relating to their life, printed in the order of service
- You could select a unique format for the service that reflects one important aspect of the life of the person who has died
- You could set up a digital memory book for guests to leave messages and tributes
- You could incorporate a theme inspired by a person’s love of travel, gardening, music, sport or nature (or even a favourite colour)
Experience you can trust, support you can rely on
With over three centuries of service and ten generations of the Field family still guiding the business today, CPJ Field offers all the tradition and heritage you would expect in funeral arranging plus a modern, flexible approach.
Our local funeral directors are proud of the funerals they arrange and the personal and compassionate service that they offer at every stage of the process.
After the funeral with ‘Never Alone’
And personalisation does not end when the service is over.
We understand that loneliness following a bereavement can be challenging and it needs a kind, caring approach to help support those going through a difficult time.
It is via our Never Alone initiative that we continue to support families in the weeks, months and years that follow bereavement. This includes providing access to practical and emotional support, such as our coffee mornings held throughout the week or our local group recommendations for new hobbies.
