Arranging a Cremation

Arranging a cremation to reflect a person’s wishes is a deeply personal and emotional process. We are here to guide you every step of the way for a cremation that suits all your requirements.

Simple steps to arranging a cremation

Most crematoriums will work directly with a funeral director. We understand that arranging a cremation can be an extremely worrying time and we take the pressure and uncertainty away from bereaved families.

Arranging a cremation involves several key steps:

  1. Initial Contact: We are here to take your first call and enquiry at any time. Our team will guide you through the initial stages.
  2. Setting up an appointment to discussing your wishes: We will meet with you to answer your questions, discuss your preferences, and take the concern out of your hands. Whether you prefer a simple cremation or a fully personalised service, we will organise it for you.
  3. Documentation: We’ll help you complete all necessary paperwork, including obtaining the required medical and legal forms.
  4. Looking after the person who has died: we will take care of the person who has died between death and the day of the cremation, and you can visit the funeral home at any time
  5. Planning the Ceremony: If you wish to hold a service, we’ll assist in selecting a venue, arranging transportation, and personalising the ceremony. The service can take many forms such as being led by a minister or a family member or friend if you wish.
  6. The Cremation Process: The cremation will be conducted with the utmost care and respect at a chosen crematorium. You may choose to attend or hold a private moment of reflection elsewhere. Everything is flexible.
  7. Memorial Options: After the cremation, we can help you decide on memorial options, such as scattering ashes in a meaningful location or selecting an urn to keep them close.

An appointment with your funeral director: the finer details

Typically, an appointment is arranged in person in one of our funeral homes to plan the day of the cremation. We will take you through all the details, including:

  • the choice of the crematorium
  • what to expect at the service or committal
  • your choice of hearses and vehicles and the cortege route
  • your choice of coffin and the bearers
  • funeral flowers and funeral music
  • how to issue funeral notices
  • how to choose who will be leading the service
  • your preferences on catering at the crematorium should you wish to provide refreshments
  • donations to charity

The Day of the Cremation

On the day of the cremation, our priority is to provide unwavering support and to ensure everything proceeds smoothly. You can expect:

  • Arrival at the Crematorium: Family and friends gather at the crematorium if a service is planned. Alternatively, a cremation may proceed without attendees, based on your preferences.
  • The Service: If a service is held, it will typically include readings, music or tributes. We will have discussed everything with you when arranging the cremation so everything will be smooth and seamless
  • The Cremation: During the cremation process, the coffin is moved to the chamber and the body is transformed into ashes
  • After the Cremation: Once the cremation is complete, the ashes are prepared for collection.
