Gerard Hemsworth

Gerard passed away at home on the 15th of February after struggling with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) over the past few years. He will be remembered by many not only as an artist and educator but as a generous friend and colleague.

He was dedicated to his family, his wife Susan Ormerod and their children Ruby, Jack and Frankie and the children from his first marriage Matthew and Jane and her son Finn. Their loss is immeasurable.

The family has decided that in these strange times, and to honour Gerard’s wishes of a ‘no fuss’ funeral, that there will be no ceremony at his cremation. His ashes will be scattered in an area of protected woodland on the grounds of the house and studio that he co-designed and built, completed just three years ago, in the East Sussex countryside.

It had been amongst his last plans to plant this woodland area with native flowers and this is where a small private committal will be held to reflect his strong Catholic faith and to celebrate his life. A place where family and friends can visit and remember him at a later date.

The family is asking for donations to be made to the charities British Lung Foundation and St. Michael’s Hospice, Hastings and Rother, who were preparing to help and support in the next few months before his sudden death. Donations can be made through Haine & Son, Battle on this page.
