I’ve known Margaret since she helped me start a Book Group locally - through an ad in Peter’s Eagle shop, then in Castle Rd - nearly 35 years ago. We have missed her warmth, hospitality and contributions very much since she’s been unable became unwell, but since then I have enjoyed visiting Margaret at home and helping with the crosswords! Her range of knowledge and her articulate convictions will also ensure her memory. With deepest sympathy to Margaret’s family. Jill Brown

It took us the better part of half a century to catch up online, and we finally met again last August with great joy. I count myself very fortunate to have spent that last morning with you. You have been an exemplary mother and with Jurek formed an unbreakable bond producing a wonderful compassionate family. I have been privileged to have been a part of your life, and your family's as a result. Your memory will last my lifetime. I have attached a photo of some of us in younger times. In loving memory, Margaret.

I’ve known Margaret since 2009 when I first became her cleaner, over the years we built up an amazing relationship. She watched me go from a young 21 year old to a mother of two. She would call me her “adopted granddaughter” and her my “adopted grandma” we had many laughs together and shared a passion for chocolate and puzzle worlds. We would spend ages just chatting and exchanging life updates. Margaret adored my two children and was always keen to hear how they were getting on, she taught me a lot about life. She was an absolute amazing lady and I will miss her forever. X

Mog was my mother's closest friend and a real source of strength when she needed her most. A friend to all, I will remember Mog most for her cheery personality, intelligence, warmth and humour. RIP Mog. Lots of love, your godson.

I remember Margaret's delighted greetings, her warm welcome, her interest in everything, & my first dance with Viv at one of the Cosmolink social gatherings where Margaret & Jurek welcomed newcomers. Viv was a maths colleague at Pilgrim School. (In 2017 she wrote that Viv had introduced her to crosswords. He says there were many crosswords, but no cross words!)
51 years later we still cherish these memories. Margaret & Jurek were important guests at our wedding in 1974 & were godparents to our twins in 1978.
It was more difficult to visit Margaret after we moved to Leeds but we did manage a few visits, the last one in Oct 2023.
We'll be travelling down to Bedford for Wednesday.
    Rest in peace, lovely lady.
    Love fromViv & Val

Margaret and I met 20 years ago at the Rothsay Education Centre in Bedford. Shared interests - mainly books and what Margaret called The Big Questions - drew us together and we became the best of friends. We didn't always agree on The Big Answers but that made our chats all the more interesting! We were able to agree to disagree, and to look forward to our next discussion.

I had tremendous respect for my friend. Despite impressive academic achievements, especially for a woman of her generation, she remained humble. When I asked her just a few months ago what in her long life had brought her the greatest satisfaction, the answer was marriage to her beloved Jurek and bringing up their four children.

She was a very honest person, a person of high principle and great integrity. A woman of quality, she remained dignified and courteous to the end.
I am so grateful to have known her.

One of my fondest memories of Grandma was as a boy every Christmas spending time at Number 10. Eating lots of delicious food, tea and cakes and playing (of course) intellectual games or quizzes.

May you find comfort with Grandpa. We love you. Joy & Tommy.

Mog was a truly special and much-loved friend of the family for so many years. She will be especially remembered for her natural warmth, sense of humour and deep curiosity. We cherish many happy memories of family visits together.

The close bond between Mog and my late mother was a great comfort to my mother during difficult times. Their shared overseas adventures were often recalled with much fondness.

Rest in peace, dearest Aunty Mog.

Margaret was a colleague when I started my teaching career at Pilgrim School in September, 1972 and a friend when I left to teach abroad in 1974. Kind and understanding, it wasn’t long before she invited me to her home, introduced me to Jurek and her young family and welcomed me to their Open House on Sunday evenings to meet other young people like myself, alone in Bedford, for tea and biscuits, companionship, discussions, music and fun. She provided a lifeline and a connection which I admired and endeavoured to maintain, in spite of distance and the passage of time. She will be sorely missed.
