    Dear Backhouse Family,
My heart doesn't want to believe this new reality where Spencer is not going to be around with us in person. Spencer has been a great mentor for many like me back home in Mumbai. I will miss out banter at coffee, Lunch and over a pint. I will truly miss his visits to Mumbai. Spencer's joyfulness and positive attitude towards life is something we will always remember and cherish. He lives in our memory and in our hearts. May god give you the strength to cope with this new reality.

    Dear Liz,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have had the privilege to work with Spencer for years now in DB and in that span of time have gotten to know him better. He is truly one of the people that I loved working with. I will always remember all the stories he shared with us during the days he would join us for lunch or over during our team fostering. He was funny, kind and really has a deep viewpoint about life and the world. I will forever cherish those memories since not only have I enjoyed them and his company, but I have learned a lot from him too. He always talks about you and your kids with fondess and love. I will really miss him too. I can just imagine that this is a very painful time for you and your family but I am sure Spen is watching over all of you. Sending you my deepest condolences.

I cannot comprehend that just a few weeks ago I was sharing my milestone 80th birthday on the 18th September with my beloved son Spencer, around his family dinner table, as our last meal together, and as we left to say 'goodbye' he called me his hero.

The joy he has continually given his mother and myself during these past 48 years has been immense, with his family values, his love, fairness and protection for those around him, and his thoughtfulness in personal birthday and Christmas presents that only he alone could deliver. His final present to me, his father, being a street plan of where I was born back in 1940 together with a sepia photograph of the family house as it is today.

Spencer, I have said many times how proud I am of you in all that you have achieved in this life, and in the twilight of my own life, your memory will never fade from my thoughts as having lived loved and been respected by all who had the good fortune to know you.
Tragically you have passed from this world so young and regretted, with so many plans and aspirations unfulfilled.

Be assured Spencer your Mum and I will wrap our blanket of care around Liz, Kate and Dylan whilst we are able, as indeed you would have wished.

Meanwhile, Rest in Peace my Number 3 Son.

    Your loving Dad x

    This is such sad news.

Reading the other messages of condolence reminded me so much of the friend I first met at primary school. I'd not seen Spencer for many years, but it is heartening to know that Spencer maintained all the personal qualities he had during his school days. His sense of humour and adventure, his engagement with friends & family and his sincerity.

I have many fond memories of the time spent together in our younger years. Star Wars battles, trading ZX Spectrum games, organising 6th Form parties and risking it all with lifts home after school in the Hillman Imp!

My thoughts are with you all.

Whilst Spen consoled me on football results and we reminisced over Nigel Mansell and Valentino Rossi, his tips, advice and best wishes for my own kids will be something I'll always remember and I’m sure will be a lasting legacy that he leaves not just me but so many other dads who knew him. I'm so very sorry to hear this.

I knew Spencer in 6th Form and had some adventures in the Hillman Imp and the "Jet-Propelled Carrot." Fond memories of 6th form pubs and parties. One long-standing memory is of when Spencer called for me one night and was horrified when the front door was answered by one of his teachers - who happened to be my mum.

Apart from a brief Facebook chat a few years ago, we hadn't been in touch since school. It's lovely to see a photo of Spencer and his family. Such a handsome man and, oh gosh, what a beautiful family.

I remember 18 year old Spencer as being funny, clever, lovely and thoughtful. Reading comments here, they were characteristics that he carried into adulthood.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My mum was also shocked to hear this and would also like to pass on her condolences to you all.
