C.P.J Field welcomes the CMA Final Report, published on the 18th December, 2020

Because Every Life Is Unique

As a 10th generation family-owned and managed business we understand as well as any the trust placed in us as Funeral Directors and our responsibility to care for bereaved and deceased people to the best of our ability.

We welcome the publishing of the final Competition & Markets Authority report (published on 18th December 2020), which sets out the proposed remedies relating to transparency; pricing and quality standards of care within the industry, including the formal registration of Funeral Directors.

As a business we pride ourselves on supporting communities and individuals with the best care. We are naturally disappointed to hear or learn of any evidence of poor standards in areas of the sector. We recognise the unique nature of the trust placed in funeral directors by grieving families when making funeral arrangements for their loved ones, which must not be abused.

We note the CMA’s comments relative to the current COVID-19 pandemic, however we are disappointed that the report’s summary omits reference to the key role Funeral Directors have played in the pandemic. Funeral homes across the country have made a significant contribution, as key workers, in continuing to care for deceased people and their families during these unprecedented times, often in the most difficult of circumstances.

We will continue to work closely with the NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors), and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the recommendations are implemented with the best interests of the families and communities we serve at their heart.
