In memory of
Pamela Ann Sinnott (Pam)
Pamela Sinnott, lifelong Brighton resident, died February 7th 2021 at the age of 83. She is survived by her two sons Guy and Paul (Liz) and grandchildren, Oliver and Grace. She is predeceased by her husband, Terry.
Pam was born November 18th 1937 to Dora Holman and James Blyth. She served an apprenticeship as a hairdresser and worked in various salons in Brighton where she competed in competitions showcasing the fashionable hairstyles of the time. Pam left her career in hairdressing to raise her two sons. She later returned to work as a dinner lady and teacher’s assistant at Fairlight First School.
Swimming and the beach were a big part of Pams life. In the 1950s, as part of the Brighton Swimming Club sea swimming section, Pam became a member of the Women’s surf lifesaving team. The team attracted a lot of interest from the media. Pam appeared on the BBC TV show “In Town Tonight” where she met the Australian High Commissioner. She was later invited to the Australian High Commission in London to be presented with a reel and line from Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.
She met her husband Terry Sinnott on the club beach, he was part of the sea swimming section and a regular at “The Arch.” They married in 1959. She raised her children, Guy and Paul, on the beach. Pam loved to travel and visited Europe and the USA with her husband; after his death she continued to travel to the USA to visit her beloved Grandchildren.
Pam will be dearly missed. Her sweet smile, big heart, and compassionate nature are what we need more of in this world. Her most cherished memories were made on the pebbles and in the green water of Brighton’s beaches. Swim safely into the sunset Mum…we love you
