Una Leonette Hopcroft (formerly Thaddeus) BA
Una Leonette Hopcroft, known as Queenie, passed away on Sunday 24th January, in her Northgate home of 65 years,
aged 90.
Widow of the late John Hopcroft, She leaves 9 heartbroken children and their partners,
23 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, extended family, and numerous close and special friends.
Born in British ruled India, Queenie came to England in 1952 and worked at St Francis School and Paymaster General's Office,
and was well known in the Crawley community for being involved in many projects and groups,
including helping to found the Crawley Campaign against Racism , Crawley Interfaith Network, and her voluntary work with
local Blind groups, Mother Teresa Co-Workers, and the Friary Justice and Peace Group. She was an active member of the Crawley
Labour Party.
A Requiem for invited attendees will take place on Friday, 12th February, at her beloved Friary Church, Crawley,
where she worshipped for 65 years, followed by interment at Snell Hatch.
Family flowers only. Donations in lieu to Mother Teresa Co-Workers, Kolkata, and St Catherine's Hospice, Crawley, care of Ballard and Shortall,
10 Haslett Avenue, Crawley, RH10 1HS.
With thanks to the NHS, St Catherine’s Hospice, Marie Curie Nurses, Dr Ruglys, Nurse Julia, First Col
Carers, Friary Parish Team, devoted neighbours, and all who looked after Queenie in her last years.
A fuller celebration of her life will take place in safer times.
Rest in Peace Mum, Granny, Great-Granny.
