In memory of
Peter Robin Saunders
Peter Robin Saunders of Letchworth, Church Organist and local Music Teacher, sadly passed away peacefully on 10th April 2025 at his care home, aged 86.
Peter was born in Skipton in Yorkshire where he learnt to play the piano and then the church organ. He studied Physics at Kings College London and went onto teach Physics before a brief career in industry. He then chose to upgrade his music skills by completing piano music exams and attaining his teaching qualifications in music.
As well as playing the organ he inspired many members of the church choir and was the accompanist for Stevenage Male Voice Choir. He introduced many young musicians to the piano and often accompanied them for their music exams and encouraged them to play in a variety of concerts, as well as himself playing in many concerts. He learnt the violin and viola - he built his own viola - and enjoyed playing with several music groups. He enjoyed annual visits to Berwang in Austria to join their music courses.
The deceased is survived by his nephews: Philip, Richard and Robert, and his sister Ruth.
The funeral will be held at 2.30pm on Monday 12th May at All Saints' Church, St Paul's Walden, where he had been church organist for over 40 years. Refreshments will be served after the service in the church annex.
Family flowers only. Donations can be made in memory of Peter to the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth (www.ghhospicecare.org.uk) or the British Trust for Ornithology (www.bto.org).
