In memory of
Christopher Anthony Charles Smith (Chris)
Chris was born on 29 June 1944 in Purton, Wiltshire, to Anthony (Tony) and Doris.
He trained as a public sector accountant at Swindon Borough Council before his adventurous spirit took Chris and his wife Jill to Zambia in the late 1960s.
On returning to the UK in 1971, Chris and Jill moved to Milton Keynes. Here, they welcomed their daughter Catherine in 1976. Chris played a key role in the development of Milton Keynes New Town, later becoming Finance Director of the Council.
On retirement from the Council, Chris embarked upon a second career, in which he provided financial advice to a number of charitable and public sector organisations including the Chilterns Conservation Board and Leicestershire Police Authority.
In the late 1990s, he played a pivotal role in the saving of Bletchley Park for the nation. It was here that he met Lindsey. Chris and Lindsey were married at Bletchley Park in 2002. Chris and Lindsey spent all their married life in Tingewick, Buckingham. He loved village life.
Chris passed away peacefully at home on 25 October 2024. He is survived by his wife Lindsey and daughter Catherine.
Chris lived a life full of joy, fun, adventure and optimism, and treated everyone he met with such gentle kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Chris’s life will be celebrated in a service of thanksgiving at St Mary Magdalene Church, Tingewick, on Thursday 14 November at 12 noon. Family flowers only, please. All donations in memory of Chris will be given to the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity and Prostate Cancer UK.
