In memory of

Daphne Mary Smith

Daphne Mary Smith (nee Surgeson), born 4 May 1925 in Durban, South Africa, passed away peacefully aged 99 years on 13 October 2024 in Bedford, England.

Daphne attended Maris Stella Convent School before working in legal and insurance businesses. On 24 November 1955 Daphne married Harry Smith (1923-2011) and moved to Salisbury, Rhodesia where she raised five children: Richard (1957-2012), Anthony (1958), Susan (1959-2018), David (1962), and Edmund (1963). Daphne attended Rhodesville RC Church and she held her deep faith her entire life. In later life she devoted much of her time to volunteer work at Lighthouse Hospice and other charitable activities.

In 2003 Daphne moved briefly back to South Africa and then in 2004 she moved to England, living firstly in Selby, Yorkshire, and later in Bedford, Bedfordshire.
