Janice Margaret Jeffries (Jan), aged 67, passed away on 20th April 2024, after a courageous battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. She departed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
Jan was born on 15th February 1957, to George and Violet Hatt in High Wycombe Shrubbery and was the elder sister to Sandra and Jo-Ann. After finishing school, she landed her first job in the Accounts Department at Woolworths. Leaving Woolworths, she then went on to work for John Hawkins Furniture.
When Jan was 8 years old, she met John, who lived 3 doors along from her, in Roundwood Road. Romance blossomed over the years and they married on 21st February, 1976, at St Birinus Church, High Wycombe, a week after her 19th birthday. Jan and John went on to buy their first home in Chinnor, where they settled down and celebrated the birth of their 3 daughters, Diane, Jacqueline and Nicola, which made their family complete.
When Jan had the girls, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and she excelled at supporting John, Diane, Jackie and Nicola through their many passions and decisions in life. Later on, Jan and John celebrated the birth of their 5 grandsons, Blake, Manson, Tyler, Harry and Ethan. Jan idolized the grandchildren and loved spoiling them, watching them play, grow and she would take great pride in all their achievements.
Throughout Jan’s life, she had many hobbies, besides spending time with her family. She enjoyed nothing more than travelling different countries with John and the girls, taking in the sites, cultures and even some family history. Over time and many visits, Jan had a passion for Portugal, so in 2016 they purchased a beautiful apartment overlooking the sea. Jan and John would spend countless trips travelling over and spending 3 or 4 weeks at a time, in the place they loved. It was their happy place together.
Jan was a passionate dressmaker and enjoyed making her daughters and herself various outfits, like shorts, trousers, school dresses and items for their holidays. She even made wedding dresses, party dresses and ball gowns. When she wasn't making clothing, Jan turned her eye to making and altering curtains for friends and family. Years later, if Jan wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, or being with her family, she could be found in her office at home, with her creativeness, making various greeting cards. Upon her diagnosis 8 years ago, Jan filled her time with making cards specifically for the Cancer unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where all proceeds would be donated back into the hospital.
Jan touched the lives of those around her with her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. She embodied kindness and compassion and her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her friends and family. Despite facing the challenges of her illness, she remained a beacon of hope and inspiration, her legacy of love will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in her journey.
A celebration of Jan’s life, will be a private family event, however, in lieu of flowers, Jan had requested that any donations be made to Cancer Research UK, a charity close to Jan and her family’s heart.
May Jan rest in eternal peace, free from pain, and may she be remembered for the love and light she brought into the lives of others.
