Khalil Cyril Ahmad (Ahmed) Ackloo (known as Kal to all) died on Monday 26th December, 2022, at the age of 72, following a brief, terminal illness, at East Surrey Hospital. He had been born on 30th April, 1950 in Albion, British Guiana.
Almost from birth, he lived with and was much beloved by his maternal grandmother Gulsham Nesa (Ma) Razak (d), aunts Zena (m. Joseph Menezes (d)), Roshamena, Zobeeda (m. Herman Jardine (d)), Rowena (m. Mustapha Bacchus-Misir), Leila (m. Stephen Pancham (d)), (all deceased) and Ameena (Bebe) (m. Jankee (Jim) Maraj (d)) and maternal uncles, Sheikh Hamid Shah and Nadir (Joe) (both deceased) and Arnold (m. Kathy Rohoman).
During his 55 years in the UK, he was very much beloved and closely supported by his aunt Ameena (Bebe), her late husband Jim, and their children Shaun and Nadine (Deeny). Kal and Deeny were especially close treating each other as siblings would (or should!). Aunt Bebe, Shaun, Deeny and her husband Shiraz are devastated at their loss.
Kal had been born to Nina Elizabeth Ackloo and Cyril Nathaniel Ackloo (both deceased) and he is survived by three sisters Elizabeth (m. Derek Carlaw), Joan and Camille (m. Chris Kelly), and one brother, Raymond (m. Helen Wiseman), with all of whom he kept close, especially in later life, and all of whom now grieve at their beloved brother’s passing. His mother, Nina, loved him dearly.
Kal had seven nieces and nephews: (Elizabeth) – Stefanie (m. Martyn Hambrook) and Melanie (m. Sean McCord); (Raymond) – David (d), Suzanne (m. Suresh Krishnan), Elizabeth (m. Adam Andrews), Alexandra (m. Robert Gurr) and Ray AD; (Camille) – Ray, and ten grand-nieces and grand-nephews: (Stefanie) – Olivia and Stuart; (Melanie) – Amelia and Harry; (Suzanne) – Devan and Kavi; (Elizabeth) – Daniel and Ellie; (Alexandra) – Thomas and Theodore (Teddy).
There were many cousins in Kal’s life: (Rowena) – Mirza (m. Sharmila Tiwari) [Farah, Niall], Javed (m. Rabia Hassan) and Saeed (m. Mala Singh) [Shane, Sasha, Sara, Sophia, Selena]; (Leila) – Robert (ex Nicole Kypri) [Katrina], Abigail (ex William Nixon) [Natasha], Damian (d) (ex Anita Alli) [Chloe]; (Ameena) – Shaun (m. Mel Taylor) [Jessica], Nadine (Deeny) (m. Shiraz Sharif); (Arnold) – Nadeem (d), Alim, Ansar.
Kal is survived by his ex-wife, Susan Michele Ackloo.
Kal spent many years working at Allders as an auditor and was based at their Croydon store prior to his departure in 2012. He made many friends there with whom he had kept in touch after his departure and will be greatly missed, notably by Veronica (Roni) Taylor and Max Menon.
A theme in the stories the writer (Raymond) has been privileged to have been told since Kal became ill and, moreso, since his passing, is his kind and generous nature, shown to family, to his co-workers, and, even in hospital, in his engaging, friendly and funny interactions with hospital staff at all levels.
A Roman Catholic funeral ceremony will take place on Friday 13th January, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Surrey and Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Pound Hill, Crawley, RH10 3NQ.
Visitation/ Viewing before the funeral will be private.
Interment of the ashes will take place privately.
