In memory of

Richard James Beahan (Rich)

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Beahan (Rich) announces he died of cancer on Sunday 31st October 2021, aged 61.

Rich passed away peacefully at his home in Brighton, surrounded by his family. He is survived by wife, Veronique, daughter Nikita, son Sam and two grandchildren, Mia and Esme.

Born to Patrick and Mary Beahan in Leeds on 3rd April 1960 and the fourth of five children, he is also survived by Mary and his two brothers and two sisters. The family moved to the Peak District when he was four years old and he went to school in Sheffield.

In his 20s, Rich lived and worked in France. He became fluent in French, met Veronique in St. Tropez and the South of France was always a special place to him. He was proud that his two children were born in France; Nikita in St. Tropez and Sam in Paris.

Rich will be remembered as an accomplished musician, a wonderful live performer, and talented singer-songwriter, who has written and recorded a number of highly regarded songs during his long career. He didn’t just write romantic love song melodies however, in his later life, he was also a political campaigner who used his music to make important statements about Brexit, Boris Johnson and the Trump presidency. His legacy will be the songs and lyrics that survive him.

Rich’s funeral service will be held at the Unitarian Church in Brighton at 11am on Monday 15th November. Flowers or charitable donations to Help Musicians using the following link: https://www.helpmusicians.org.uk/support-our-work/make-a-donation
