In memory of

Joan Rene Rameaux

Joan Rene Rameaux (nee Perkins), our dear Mum, Nanny, GG, sister, was born on December 7th, 1923 and left us on Wednesday January 18th, 2023 at the wonderful age of 99.

Joan was predeceased by her parents Reginald and Florence Perkins and sister Dorothy (Peggy) Stowe, by her husband Frederick Leon Charles Rameaux, and by her beloved dogs Samson and Sandy.

Joan and Freddie were married In Putney on March 6th,1948 after a whirlwind romance. Almost immediately, Freddie was sent to New Delhi for his first Foreign Service posting, where Joan flew to meet him a few weeks later. Young Joan, who had never before left England, travelled alone for three days to join her new husband. And so began their life of travel and adventure which they so loved. After two years in New Delhi, and over the next 35 years, they settled into life in Shanghai, Tel Aviv, Frankfurt, Naples, Houston and Milan.

During this time, Joan managed households, raised two daughters, entertained new friends and diplomats, mastered new languages, and even learned to drive and take her driving test in Naples!

Joan loved gardening and walking, and had many crafty hobbies - knitting, sewing, tailoring, tapestry, furniture recovering, stained glass work, pottery, and more. When Joan and Freddie retired to the country village of Cossington in Somerset in the early 1980s, and began their 20-year renovation project, her many talents were put to wonderful use redecorating and turning their retirement house and garden into the beautiful home it became.

Their travel days were not over, and they returned often to their beloved Italy, and to Vancouver, Canada to visit daughter Jill and her family. When her dear Freddie died in 2002, Joan moved to East Grinstead to be closer to daughter Anne and her family. She loved nothing better than to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived and much loved and missed by her sister Joyce, daughters Jill (Gary) and Anne (David), her grandchildren Samantha (Peter), Daniel, Stephanie (Jonny), Katie (Kristian), Tristan (Nicole) and Chloe, and by her great-grandchildren Josh, Zack, Imogen, Dyllan, Mads, Thea and Arlo.
