I had the pleasure of working with Ray at Barclays, 160 Piccadilly in the early 90s. He was always very professional in his work and a good man to have on your side during what were challenging times. He was a true gentleman and enjoyed the complete respect of all of his colleagues.

Please accept my deepest condolences. My heart truly goes out to you all. Ray really was one of life’s very special, kind and gentle people. I feel privileged to have spent time in his company and I have very fond memories of Ray being the perfect host when Tony and I came to dinner in Ireland. I can’t imagine the pain you must all be feeling at the moment. I hope and pray that the memories of all the wonderful times you had together at least brings you some comfort during this very difficult time.

Reading the other condolences I can see that Ray stayed the same person that I knew early in his life. We spent our formative schooling years (5-18) living 2 houses apart from each other. We were probably the most studious and thoughtful boys in a fairly boisterous crescent of new council houses. After Ray’s mother died, tragically young, when we were in our mid teens, we went on an ambitious trekking and camping adventure together round all the lakes in the Lake District, which I still remember fondly. Meticulously planned by Ray of course. When I look at the black and white Kodak photographs I can still see the calm and considerate friend he was. Sadly I haven’t had any contact with him since but I understand from my sister, who has stayed in touch with Pam, that he continued to live a fulfilled and caring life. I have always appreciated being his childhood friend; growing upon together from the austere early 1950’s, all through the rapidly changing 1960’s, listening to Del Shannon and the Tornadoes on our Dansette record player, and to have been a passenger in his green homebuilt Ford Special sports car. Thank you for our time together Ray.

Ray, your death was so sudden and a huge shock to us that we are still coming to terms with our loss.

You were a true gentleman, one of life's best people, always willing to lend a hand, always had the right tool for Dave to borrow, and had a great understanding of everything DIY.

You were fantastic as Treasurer of Bega kwa Bega Uganda for six years, and did so much to help BkB and many other charities to which you gave your time and donations so generously.

We are trying to get on with each day and all of a sudden it hits us how so very MUCH we miss you and our tears flow and the sadness is so great that it hurts.

You enriched our lives. It was a privilege to know you and to have you in our family. Your decency and kindness and love for you family will live on in your sons, in Michelle and James, in Maggie and in all our Irish family, who all loved you dearly.

You are surely in Heaven. Rest in peace. Kathy and Dave XXX

Dearest Maggie and loving family, and Kathy and Dave, your loss is so abrupt, I'm truly sorry. God should not take such a fine man who could fix things with skill...every woman needs such a man ( I once knew a man who put up a shelf for me that sloped , stuff would slide off!) So when Kathy spoke about Ray's d.i.y it filled me with wonder, then I heard casually mentioned that Ray took off for Ireland by motorbike! And now I see all the fun times in the pictures, and that he enjoyed a pint of Guiness. There must have been some magic spark and great joy to inspire such adventure. Feeling for you all in this unreal time, wishing you comfort...wisdom teachers tell us nothing/ no one is lost in this universe... God bless you all, God bless Ray on his journey..lots of love Anne xxx

Dear Maggie, Michelle and Boys
Ray was a kind, gentle, caring, and very sincere man. He would give his viewpoint, when asked, on any problem his relations and friends had.

His 'do it yourself skills' were numerous. He was mild mannered but had a dry sense of humour especially when making his speech at Michelle's wedding. He looked most proud walking her down the aisle and was an excellent husband and stepfather.

We shall miss him very much and were proud to know him.

Be strong and with much love now and always.

It is very touching to read all the tributes to Ray and to recall those made at his Funeral. He was obviously held in high regard, which is much appreciated.
Ray was successful in his professional and private lives. He found so much happiness in his marriage to Rose (Mother to Peter, Graham and Andrew) until her sad and premature death.
Ray and Maggie obviously enjoyed a very happy and fulfilled marriage with a shared sense of adventure and mutual caring. He was so proud to be able to escort Michelle at her marriage to James.
A very big “Thank you” to Rose’s and to Maggie’s respective families for embracing him as you all did and so fulfilling his life.
Ray was the best Brother I could have wished for. Date-wise he was my kid-Brother (we shared a twin pram when he was born) but, in so many ways, he was my big-Brother: supportive and helpful, always available for advice and guidance or with practical help when, for example, I moved flats, needed lifts to/from an airport or needed a new bathroom installed!
Ray, I miss you so much and I am so, so sorry that your life has been cut short so abruptly but I’m so relieved that you didn’t suffer. Tom and Jessie miss their so-kind Uncle and Eva, Bella & Franklin miss their dear Great-Uncle who never forgot a Birthday. Rest in Peace my darling Brother and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will treasure my memories.

Dear Ray, my Big Bro. So sad to realise I'll never see you again, no more phone calls saying you'd missed the ferry, could you and Maggie kill a few hours at mine...how I enjoyed having you both here. A lifetime of memories, but one sprang to mind unexpectedly, due I think to the photo of you in your bike leathers...spending the day with you at Brands Hatch one Sunday when I was 13 or14, watching the bike races. Thank you for being the best big bro, you have a very special place in my heart, always.
