Mark was the most inspiring teacher and colleague I have ever known. The thing I loved the most was his sense of humour, he could tell you a joke starting with every letter of the alphabet. Something that I would often test him on. I was blessed to have his support and friendship over the years and will miss him very very much. Rest in Peace Mark, see you on the other side.

Mark has been my go to I.T. person for the past 15 years. He is solely responsible for the skills and confidence I have, even if it doesn't always work. A patient kind man who always found time to help, lastly in July helping the catering dept out with the online end of year presentation. Thank you Mark, Myself and the rest of the department will miss you immensely. Rest In Peace and hope you find some wonderful animals in your new residence. x

Mark's passing came as a great shock, not just to me but my wife Amanda and sons Sean & Neil.
I met Mark in his beloved Liverpool back in the Eighties, back when everything was possible. Thanks to Mark, we just about remained in touch, and now, of course, I fiercely regret not meeting up more regularly.

When I heard about Mark's death, all my thoughts were of a selfish nature - regret, mortality & shared memories never to be shared again.
Now though, my thoughts & wishes are entirely with his Mother, Brother and the lovely lovely Gaynor.

Mark will be very much missed.

Mark, you were a best mate. We had fun together at Woffington Close. Men behaving badly sometimes/often, especially at The (sad) Lion and binge watching Friends when we should have been getting ready to start the work week. Photography was a common hobby that introduced us and we were both pretty good AND competitive :-). I will miss you incredibly even though we hadn't met up for a while. You were a good mate Mark Carne. See you on the other side

I had the pleasure and honour to work closely with Mark for the last few years. And my team and I experienced his commitment, talent, integrity, warmth, kindness and friendship at close hand and, most recently, saw how those qualities came strikingly to the fore during enforced college closure – we will miss him terribly. He was a brilliant and wonderful man. The legacy of Mark’s work will be long-standing; his work has touched the lives of so many colleagues and students.

To all of Mark's family and friends, my deepest condolences at the gap left in your lives too.

Mark, sadly, you've passed on far too early. You were one of my guiding lights in archery and I always enjoyed shooting with you - even after you'd taught me so well I managed to take your barebow title away from you.

And you introduced me to wildlife photography with some great albums from the British Wildlife Centre, which inspired me to go looking for those elusive otters and other critters.

We never did manage that snooker rematch, but you managed to see your beloved Liverpool win the Premier League by a streak and I know that would have given you great pleasure.

I'm going to miss you, mate. It was a real privilege to have known you.

I had the privilege of working with Mark over the last couple of years and had a small window into the way he worked with others, finding solutions and patiently helping them achieve what they needed. I was always impressed by his calm, reassuring manner, his expertise and his attention to detail. Always easy to talk to and always willing to help. We'll all miss him.

It was a pleasure knowing Mark; he was a much valued colleague and we were lucky to work with him. He was patient, affable, helpful and incredibly reassuring in his manner with everyone. I only knew Mark for three years, since we merged as a College Group, when Mark took on the absolutely critical role of helping staff and students across the Group to communicate and learn more effectively online. He did this with great enthusiasm and really made a difference to many hundreds of staff and students.

Mark seemed to relish his work, continually trying to help others find quicker and better ways to find online solutions. He never tired of answering questions or emails asking for his support, no matter how many demands were put on him across the Group. This was even more noticeable when the colleges closed in March and Mark had video contact with almost all staff across the College Group through his invaluable online training sessions.

Mark - you will be sorely missed as we start the new term without you. May you rest in peace.

Mark, I can't believe you are gone. You were the most kind and supportive colleague. Only you could help me realise my crazy ideas for online CPD and keeping me sane when it didn't go to plan. Your patience was limitless and I will miss our daily chats and how you always commented on whatever crazy hairstyle I was trying that day. You really became part of our little TLA team during lockdown and it won't be the same without you. Rest in peace my friend.

Mark was a dear colleague who will be sorely missed. Mark was one of the first people I met when I joined South Thames College in 2015 and I eventually became his line manager for a period of time.

He was a joy to work with professionally and on a personal level he was always someone I enjoyed interacting with. We discussed many things including his love of photography and the different places we planned to travel too. My thoughts go out to Gaynor and his friends and family. Taken from us too soon.

I was shocked then saddened by the sudden death of Mark, who was too young to be taken from us.

Over my four years at STC, I could count on Mark to help me out with the little things in the world of Moodle and 365 such as saving in the correct folder, backing up in the right place or checking the right box, for Mark nothing was too much trouble. Mark had patience and explained things and helped in such a clear and calm way, that even a bit of an old Luddite like me (we didn’t have computers when I was at school) could use the college systems. Mark always used his sense of humour to keep me calm when I was beginning to panic.

When lock-down started, Mark was there for me, now he’s not there anymore - I miss him, rest in peace.

Since I know Mark, not too long, Mark was very helpful and friendly during this difficult time; yes, if you need to know anything regarding IT issues just ask and you don't have to wait even via email, the answer will be ready within minutes! I was wondering how could such a helping person suddenly disappear from this world! I really miss Mark. May his soul rest in peace.
