Such happy memories of days gone by, of fun and laughter both on and off the golf course. Be good to think of all the lovely men who have left us far too soon, happily playing golf together where the sun always shines and the ball never misses the hole. Sweet dreams dear John. Linda (Rudge) xxx

Having known the Thorpe family for many years Alan and I feel blessed to have known not only John and Madeleine but the extended family. We have wonderful memories of John not only here in the U.K. but in their beautiful home in C.F. France. As for myself if I had to chose a brother John would have been top of my list. A lovely guy who will be sadly missed.

John has been a wonderful friend for over forty years. We met in Bordeaux and spent many happy times on the beaches of Cap Feret with our young families. On our return from France, we have continued our friendship, meeting up a few times each year. We could always pick up where we left off, surely the mark of a true friend.

He is remembered by my children, Amy and Wizzy, as a favourite " uncle" who was great fun playing on the beach and in the sea. He always had time for them and they loved him

Through the years he has been supportive, loyal, a generous host and a great skipper of Helene and Bertie! His love of the sea resonated with me and I will always remember him trying to teach me, unsuccessfully, to tie nautical knots. He was very patient.
John never changed in all those years. He truly was a man of integrity, gentle and honest, and I will miss him.
Linda.

We first met John when Claire and David got together as a couple. It was a pleasure to know John and such a pity he died before his time. We will miss him: a much loved father, grandfather and friend.

We first met John and Madeleine in 1977 in Bordeaux and they immediately showed us exceptional kindness and understanding as we tried to settle our young family in a new country. We have remained firm friends ever since. John was a generous, thoughtful and fun-loving person who leaves us with many fond memories. With our love to Madeleine, Claire and Vanessa.

Paul Hudson

I have such lovely memories of waking up many times, to the sound of John's monologues with Harvy the dog.
It was usually the high pitched " isn't it Harvey?!", or, "Didn't we Harvey?!", or any other question aimed at Harvy, that woke me, with a big smile and chuckle.

Lovely man. Very funny way of telling Vanessa off that was dry and witty but effective!

Love to all of you, and I sure you're having a ball on the other side John, I've raised a few glasses to you. I bet you're drinking some top notch fancy pants vino these days.

Much, much love
