I am still totally numb following the call from Linda of Nick’s passing at such a young age. I was very fortunate to not only have worked with Nick, but to have had him as a very dear friend and confidant. We always enjoyed our catch ups, being a similar age (I was always looked at as the old boy, although there was only 22 days difference in age).
We had only met in early July for one of our usual London catch ups. Whilst we had planned a meal and a couple of drinks, the afternoon turned into the evening after a couple of bottles of wine. Neither of us drunk much, so it was interesting to see us both go in the wrong direction when we left the restaurant for our trains. Something that will stick in my mind forever - as it was the last time I saw that wonderful friendly smile, as we waved goodbye.
During the evening, Nick constantly talked about his lovely family, his wife Linda, his son and daughter, Sam and Emma and his new pride and joy, his first grandchild. He was absolutely chuffed to be a grandfather and showed me many photos of his beautiful granddaughter (he also told me all about the daily emails he had been sending, which Emma was keeping, for when his granddaughter was old enough to read and understand). What an amazing and brilliant idea. Before we left, we had planned to meet up with our wives in August and also arrange another get together, with our close friend Neel.
I still cannot believe that I will never see Nick again, although I am so lucky to have so many fabulous memories of such a wonderful and friendly guy. I am so grateful, as I was very fortunate to be able to enjoy so many happy times with Nick. Please rest in peace and I will hold all the fond memories very close to my heart, for ever and ever.
Nick you will be sorely missed but never forgotten by so many. You left an indelible mark on so many people that you touched.
