Your one of the good ones Ernie..taken too soon
RIP : Chris
On one of our many holidays on the Norfolk Broards dad hired a 7 berth yacht and besides myself Mum Dad and Jenny Robbie and Maureen 2 ladies who worked with Mum and Dad at Lucas’s Ernie also came with us to make up the 7.
Ernie and myself had the 2 births at the front of the boat as shown in the picture which was pretty cramped but we still managed to have fun.
Dad was fond of sailing and one of the days whilst sailing up the boards which wasn’t plain sailing as we had to tack from one side to the other to catch the wind on one of the tacks Ernie happened to be in wrong place when the boom swung round and knocked him completely off the boat dad loosened the sail so the boat slowed right down and we were all looking over the side where Ernie had gone over and getting a bit worried Dad was going to jump in when Ernie asked us what were we looking for little did we know that he had gone right under the boat and climbed up the other side looking like a drowned rat but Smiling We were all glad to see him.
A kind, caring, adventurous sometimes cheeky gentleman. A pleasure to have shared many good times, especially card night's at Ernie and Hanna's everyone was welcome, he was very patient to put up with us yobbos especially when he had to go to work early the next day! Rockingham beach will forever be Ernie's patch, the mad Pom swimming when everyone else had jumpers on. A sad goodbye to a top bloke will always be fondly remembered by Brian, Therese, Kelly, Jess, Ted and Tidge
Dad ialways on a journey in the moment.
For us always ‘Merry’s dad’
Gorgeous, gentle with that smile!
Condolences and love to his family
xx
I know of no other gentle man as you, no other man who believes in me as whole heartedly, no other man who loved unconditionally, respects and honours all those he loved as you did.
I will miss you Pops everyday, but with every bird song, every cycle ride and every laughter you are with me. I will imagine your spirit swimming through every rolling wave and walking through every forest with the breeze blowing and the leaves rustling.
Love you for always. Your little girl xx
Seems like yesterday
Dad's appreciation for the day is worthy of this poem.
Edna sends love to Hanna and all the family. She had fond memories of your days in Queens Park. Rest in peace Ernie.
Ernie had such a loving soul, so friendly and inviting, my Son met Ernie for the first time here and he had never cuddled up to anyone before due to being super anxious, he went so naturally to Ernie and it made me so happy.
Such fond memories of a true Gent.
Loved always and will be greatly missed.
Ernie you came into my and Wally's life when we were around the age of seven. After you married our sister Hanna in Australia and the passing of our father, you were like a father figure to us young boys. We have many memories of you as a gentle and compassionate person who enjoyed the simple things in life, like gardening, bicycling and travelling. One of the most memorable memories was our family trip to Scotland with you. You were very adventurous and you unsettled me a bit when we did the partial climb of Ben Nevis. Brad & Dan had a great time on that trip enjoying your antics. One of them was you running around with your jumper over your head and saying you were the Loch Ness monster. We are left with fond memories of a gentle and kind person who would go out of his way to be helpful. Your memory will live on and you will be sadly missed.
Love Joe, Perina, Brad & Dan
Fond memories of Ernie. Our love to Hanna and family.

Ernie, you will be missed and remembered as a
gentleman, always with a welcoming smile.
I will remember the times in Perth, when I would just drop in for a coffee and a chat with you and Hanna and was always made to feel at home.
May you forever rest in peace and love.
Sincere sympathy to Hanna and Family

We are deeply saddened about the passing of Ernie. Our heartfelt condolences to Hanna, Chris, Steve, Merry and families. We will always cherish the many special memories created in Perth and the UK over the last 50 years of friendship. Ernie’s warmth, kindness, strength, and happy nature will always be remembered in our hearts. We are sending our love and thoughts during this sad and difficult time.
Lots of Love Susanna, Kerry, Sarah and Claire ❤️
The lovely that was Ernie.
It’s no secret we always had a tool for the job! However big or complicated or handy and small, they were the fun times finding something strangely out of the ordinary. We got a buzz from that ‘an adrenaline rush’. (That was our connection) only ours!
It will always be ours and shared with no one else.
I will hold those memories dear to me, whenever I need something, you will be my first thought every time.
So wish I had a tool for you!
A privilege to have known a man, so smiley with an infectious constant happy about them and above all a simply charming individual.
Much love and affection.

Uncle Ernie - Fondly remembered as the great adventurer with the great big smile. Love you always, Pauline and Family xxx

Ten-pound Pom, tall and handsome
A gentle-man, of footy renown
Set sail from his home, an English county
To settle here in a dry western town
Seeking sun and sand and sea
Away from his northern motherland
Giant heart with an adventurous soul
Guiding all with a gentle hand
Two young hearts, full of life
Who met at a ballroom dance
Two wandering souls, who found it all
A lifetime of love and romance
My mum was there from the start
A bridesmaid, bursting with pride
She was part of the storybook beginning
Forever by her bestie's side
A beautiful family and beautiful friends
Life in Queens Park was full of simple pleasures
Never short of laughs and conversation
Experiences - life’s greatest treasures
Dedicated to work and toil
His loyalty would never waver
Wise and charming and cheeky too
Memories I will always savour.
A childlike curiosity for exploration
Forever at one with nature
Peace and joy in the glistening sun
Rockingham's crystal blue rapture.
We are grateful for the memories
And the love you always shared
We are grateful for your kind heart
And for your soul which deeply cared
My mum will look after you now
In heaven you can truly fly
And with every hug, and passing memory
A tear that I will cry
But I know in time the grief will fade
Beautiful memories will beat the pain
Your presence will be felt with each embrace
And the love you shared, never wane.
We will never forget you Ernie Higgs, Rest In Peace.

There are no words that can take away the heartache that all his family and friends are experiencing at this moment but the love that surrounds you will help.
The things that I will keep with me are that lovely smile and twinkling eyes when he greeted you, the generosity of spirit which will remain with those who knew him.
His absolute love for his family was very evident to all who met him, he was immensely proud of all of you.
I am privileged to have known him, rest in painless peace Ernie.

With happy memories of a true gentleman, who always had a smile on his face.
Grandad Ernie was a very special man who will always live on in our hearts xxx
My favourite memories of Uncle Ernie are him saying to me when he was having dental issues here “ My teeth are like the stars Kath, they only come out at night!!” Always made me smile. Also, how he danced with me to Xanadu at my wedding. It was very memorable for me. That song holds a special place in my heart as does Uncle Ernie xx
All of my memories with grandad Ernie are full of love but more importantly laughter. There was never a time when we didn’t laugh together or chuckle (mostly at nan hannas expense) about something. He was the kindest soul with the biggest heart. Even his handwriting emitted warmth.
When I remember Grandad Ernie, I will forever remember him as part of a pair. To me he will always be one half of an incredible partnership. Some people don’t find in a lifetime what Nan Hanna and Grandad Ernie found in each other. The unconditional love, the true friendship and the unfaltering companionship.
Grandad Ernie, I feel enormous gratitude to have been able to know, to love and to spend time with such an incredible human being. My childhood would never have been the same without you. I feel incredibly lucky to have spent so many years knowing and loving you.
You will be forever missed and cherished. We love you with our whole hearts.

Ernie was one of the nicest people you could ever wish too meet. He was loved, lost but will never be forgotten. Such a gentleman
