Talitha (sister-in-law)

Growing up with all sisters, I remember Leah and I always begging mom and dad for a brother. Fast forward ten plus years later, I finally got my brother through Carl. And not just a brother, but a “super cool British” brother I had told all my friends. But he was more than that. He was an amazing husband to Leah, an attentive Dad to Iris and Cirian, and someone passionate about working for the cause like Epilepsy. A memory I will always have of Carl is our chat while waiting in a drive thru chick-fil-a (an American fast food place he wanted to try, aside from the best Taco Bell). He never hesitated to ask any questions. He hit me with “so what do you like about your president and why?” while we waited in line. I had no answer for him then and he chimed in with his thoughts. For me, it just felt like a very brother-sister moment. We disagreed in the conversation, made jokes, and just chatted all while waiting in a drive thru. I want to thank Carl for his endless love for Leah and the kids and for being the big brother I always wished for as a kid. You lived a full life and I am blessed I was able to be a small part of it. We will miss you dearly and you will always be a part of our family.

Your sister,
Talitha

Life tests us. Our limited understanding of this world can be uncomfortable. God knows! In the midst of sadness and confusion, He is aware, and always will be there for you. Lay your cares upon Him for peace and comfort.

A best friend, this still doesn’t seem real. Barely a day went by without the 3 of us messaging in all the years of our friendship. Carl was wonderful. He made me smile and laugh so hard I would cry. I’ll always miss him.

The first time I met Carl was when I interviewed him for his role at Epilepsy Society. I was bowled over by his personality as well as his obvious ability to do the job. I took a leap of faith and offered him the job on the spot. He didn't let me down and I was pleased to work alongside him for a year or so. I'm so sorry to hear such devastating news. Sending my love and best wishes to Leah and the family

You were the first friend I made when I moved to the village and the first person to ever ask if I wanted to see their comicbook collection. I hadn't realised it...but I'd waited 25 years to be asked that, and knowing you shared interests with me - books, TV and movies and other niche things...that me feel normal, and even validated in some way. I never thanked you for that, so thank you.

When we met I was struck by your honesty and integrity. You took delight in so many things - even small things, and you shared your feelings freely and openly. Many people lack that ability, it's always been seen as cooler to be a critic, so I admired you for being able to share the things you liked with such enthusiasm.

Your driving scared the hell out of me though! After our first cinema trip I started volunteering to drive...I'll miss winding you up about that - and several other private jokes we seemed to amass in such a short time.

I'll miss your cooking. I'll miss sharing movie trailers with you. I'll miss walking up the hill with you. You never finished the dark tower series - the ending is bad but I wanted to discuss it with you and so much more. I valued your opinion and I valued you, mate.

I'm sorry you're not here and I'm sorry I couldn't help you more in the end. I will miss you.

I can’t stop thinking about all the great times we’ve had together. Scraping through university. Travelling through Spain. Summers spent in Norfolk. As Ric has said, no more than a few days ever passed where we wouldn’t be in touch, having a laugh about football, books and films we’ve read, work and family life. I always loved our chats, and have still been expecting your name to pop up on my phone, even though I know it’s not possible. You’ve left me with a lifetime of great memories, but I wish we could have more. Sending my love to Leah and the family, I’m thinking of you all.

I still can't believe that Carl's no longer with us. I'm so sorry for everyone's loss but I'm also glad that he was part of our lives - and he'll never be forgotten.

I've got nothing but great memories of Carl since we first met in 2006, from working together to hanging out together to holidaying together. Full of mischief and constantly getting into some kind of scrape, he'd always make me laugh and he always will. And I'll think of him every time someone says "It's AMAAAZING!" - although no one will ever say it quite like Carl did.

He is clearly very loved and will be much missed. My heart goes out to his family and friends at this very sad time. Sincere condolences to Keith, Mary, Ian and Carl's family.

Carl was so much more than great at his job. His unique skills and experience brought so much innovation to the fundraising & marketing team at the Epilepsy Society and the rewards of that will be reaped for years to come. Carl was a wonderful person to know who brought much to us as a friend, colleague, Manager and Mentor. He is and always will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Leah, Iris & Ciaran

Carl had an infectious smile and there are many things I will remember him beaming with joy about.

Just a few examples include: football (including mocking my fantasy football team!), how to use data and analytics for the good of the Epilepsy Society, and Bruce Springsteen (the Boss).

But his smile was always largest and most apparent when he talked about Leah, Iris and Ciaran.

He will always be remembered - and always missed.

A fabulous friend and colleague. Working with Carl was always a delight. He made every meeting a joy, cracking jokes and sharing beautiful stories of his children. Our catch-ups through lockdown were a spark of happiness during an uncertain time where we discussed our love of films and compared house moving and kitten/puppy drama. We have so many memories, funny moments and stories we’ll cherish forever. He had so much passion for Epilepsy Society where he was a marketing and data champion, we’re grateful to have been on that journey with him.

We’ll miss Carl deeply. Our thoughts are with Leah, Iris, Ciaran and family during this incredibly sad time.

Lots of love Char, Steve, Maggie & Big Mallet team x
