Melissa was my mentor at LOGs during my teacher training year, and she really was that… a mentor. She taught me so much about the profession and about myself. She really loved life and that was her contagious spirit. Over the next four years, I worked alongside her in the English department. She was creative, energetic and funny. One thing about Melissa was that she always had time for you. She would literally stop what she was doing to speak with you if you needed her. Above all else, Melissa was understanding. She showed empathy. She was kind and loving. She was a friend, who we will all miss dearly.

Thank you Miss. You were a brilliant teacher. You were a formidable form tutor, both in person and online. You had a supreme sense of humour and all. My GCSE and Sixth form experience was all the better having had you in it. Many students will now miss out, and miss out they really will.

You were more than a teacher, you were a friend.

Melissa Thompson taught me English for my entire seven years at LOGS and she meant so much to me. When I was 11 years old we went on a school trip to Paris and I couldn’t sleep. Melissa found me crying in the corridor of our hotel. She smoothed back my hair and gave me a hug and made me feel better. When I was 14 years old she asked me to read out a poem in class. Melissa said the poem reminded her of me and I was so flattered. I felt she saw who I was before I could see for myself. When I was preparing for my A levels she made me swear not to use my extra time incase I wrote too much in my exams. Novels, poets and authors will forever be associated with her: Gerald Durrell, Carol Ann Duffy, Animal Farm, Of Mice And Men, Atonement… her mentorship carried me from being a child to being an adult. Even though I left school a long time ago, Melissa’s lessons, warmth, empathy, humour and kindness have stayed with me for almost a decade.

Jane Thompson was a brilliant teacher and person who made sure her students were all happy during their good and bad days. She will forever be my favourite form tutor. I send my deepest condolences to her family who we heard so much about.

The shock of losing you so young, will be replaced every day, by the smiles on the faces of so many young people that you have helped become better people. Your selflessness will live on for generations, through the life skills and opportunities you gave them.
Thank you for being the wonderful person you were and for giving up so much of the short time you had, to help and support so many.

I miss you more and more everyday. You were the best mum I could have ever asked for. I didn’t need two parents when I had you. Hopefully Chelsea and Chloe are keeping you company. I know you’re still guiding me everyday and that every good thing that comes to me is you working your magic. I hope I’m making you proud ❤️

Melissa, you were the most supportive teacher I’ve ever had and you were there when I needed someone most. I remember spending lunch breaks almost everyday in your little nook office discussing books and life… it was my safe space. You alone encouraged me to stay in school and complete my exams. Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thank you.
